This is a list of unproduced film projects based on Marvel Comics properties. Some of these productions were in development but never reached the production stage, while others were shelved indefinitely.
1990s[edit | edit source]
Spider-Man[edit | edit source]
In the early 1990s, James Cameron was attached to direct a Spider-Man film. The project faced numerous legal and financial issues, leading to its eventual cancellation. Cameron's script included characters such as Electro and Sandman.
X-Men[edit | edit source]
Before the release of X-Men in 2000, several attempts were made to bring the X-Men to the big screen. In the late 1980s, Orion Pictures held the rights but failed to produce a film. In the early 1990s, James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow were involved in a potential project, but it did not materialize.
2000s[edit | edit source]
Daredevil[edit | edit source]
Following the release of Daredevil in 2003, a sequel was planned. However, due to the film's mixed reception, the sequel was never produced. Instead, the character was rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fantastic Four[edit | edit source]
In the mid-2000s, a Fantastic Four reboot was in development. The project was intended to be a darker and more serious take on the characters. However, it was eventually scrapped, and a different reboot was released in 2015.
2010s[edit | edit source]
Inhumans[edit | edit source]
An Inhumans film was announced as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three. However, the project was removed from the schedule, and the characters were later adapted into a television series.
Sinister Six[edit | edit source]
Following the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a Sinister Six film was announced. The project was intended to focus on a team of Spider-Man's villains. However, after the underperformance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the project was shelved.
