Long

From WikiMD's Wellnesspedia

Long is a term often used in various contexts to denote something of great length. It can refer to physical dimensions, time duration, or even metaphorical length. In the medical field, the term "long" can be associated with various conditions and treatments, such as Long QT syndrome, Long bone, and Long term care.

Long QT Syndrome[edit | edit source]

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a rare inherited or acquired heart condition in which delayed repolarization of the heart following a heartbeat increases the risk of episodes of torsade de pointes (a form of irregular heartbeat that leads to cardiac arrest). It can be detected by measuring the QT interval on an ECG.

Long Bone[edit | edit source]

A Long bone is one that is cylindrical in shape, being longer than it is wide. Long bones are found in the arms (humerus, ulna, radius) and legs (femur, tibia, fibula), as well as in the fingers (metacarpals, phalanges) and toes (metatarsals, phalanges).

Long Term Care[edit | edit source]

Long term care is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves for long periods. It can be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living facilities or in nursing homes.
