Los Alamitos is a city located in Orange County, California, United States. It is known as "The Friendly City" and is situated in the southern part of the county. Los Alamitos was incorporated on March 1, 1960, and has a population of 11,449 as of the 2010 census.

. The city has a total area of 1.58 square miles (4.10 km2), all of which is land. It is bordered by the cities of Cypress to the west and Seal Beach to the south.
History[edit | edit source]
The area where Los Alamitos is now located was originally inhabited by the Tongva people, who were later displaced by Spanish explorers in the 18th century. The land was then used for cattle ranching and agriculture.
In the early 20th century, the area saw a boom in the aviation industry, with the establishment of the Los Alamitos Army Airfield in 1942. The airfield played a significant role during World War II and later became the Joint Forces Training Base, which is still in operation today.
Los Alamitos was officially incorporated as a city on March 1, 1960, and has since grown into a thriving community with a diverse population.

Los Alamitos operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The city is governed by the Los Alamitos City Council, which consists of five members elected by the residents. The Mayor of Los Alamitos is Richard D. Murphy, and the City Manager is Bret M. Plumlee.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
According to the 2010 census, Los Alamitos had a population of 11,449. The city has a population density of 7,252.5 people per square mile (2,800.2/km2). The racial makeup of Los Alamitos is 69.7% White, 0.7% African American, 0.7% Native American, 15.2% Asian, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 8.4% from other races, and 5.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race make up 21.5% of the population.

Los Alamitos is served by the Los Alamitos Unified School District, which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. The city is also home to the Los Alamitos Race Course, a horse racing track that has been in operation since 1951.
Notable Attractions[edit | edit source]
One of the notable attractions in Los Alamitos is the Joint Forces Training Base, which offers military training and serves as a hub for various branches of the armed forces. The base also hosts the annual "Race on the Base" event, a popular community race that takes place on the runways.
Another popular attraction is the Los Alamitos Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the city. The museum features exhibits on the aviation industry, local Native American history, and the development of Los Alamitos.
