Lower Macungie Township is a township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is a suburb of Allentown and is part of the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 31,964.

Lower Macungie Township was established in 1832. The name "Macungie" is derived from a Native American word meaning "bear swamp." The area was originally inhabited by the Lenape people before European settlers arrived in the 18th century.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Lower Macungie Township is located in the eastern part of Lehigh County. It is bordered by Upper Macungie Township to the west, South Whitehall Township to the north, Salisbury Township to the east, and Alburtis and Emmaus to the south. The Little Lehigh Creek flows through the township, providing a natural resource and recreational opportunities.
