Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters
Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters is a trackless dark ride located in Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. It is part of the Cars Land section of the park, which opened to the public on June 15, 2012. Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters replaced Luigi's Flying Tires in March 2016, offering guests a unique and interactive ride experience that utilizes trackless ride technology to bring the animated world of Pixar's Cars to life.
Description[edit | edit source]
Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters invites guests to Casa Della Tires, where they are greeted by Luigi, the beloved Fiat from the Cars franchise. The ride features a fleet of autonomous, self-driving vehicles that dance in synchronization to Italian-themed music. Each ride experience is unique, as the cars choose from multiple dance routines, ensuring that no two rides are exactly the same.
The attraction utilizes a trackless ride system, a technology that allows for more dynamic movement of the ride vehicles compared to traditional track-based rides. This system gives the impression that the cars are dancing with each other and with Luigi, creating a lively and engaging experience for guests of all ages.
Ride Experience[edit | edit source]
Upon entering the queue, guests walk through Luigi's tire shop, filled with memorabilia and details that fans of the Cars movies will appreciate. After boarding one of Luigi's cousins, the ride vehicles move into the outdoor dance floor, where the main attraction takes place.
The music starts, and the cars begin their choreographed dance, moving forwards, backwards, and spinning in time with the music. The ride vehicles interact with each other, creating a dynamic and ever-changing dance floor. The ride concludes with a group pose, allowing guests a moment to capture memories before disembarking.
Development and Opening[edit | edit source]
Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters was developed as a replacement for Luigi's Flying Tires, a ride that faced operational challenges and mixed guest reviews. The decision to introduce a trackless ride system was part of Disney's ongoing efforts to incorporate innovative technology into their attractions, enhancing guest experiences through immersive storytelling and interactive elements.
The attraction officially opened on March 7, 2016, receiving positive reviews for its innovative use of technology and its appeal to guests of all ages. It marked the first trackless ride at the Disneyland Resort, showcasing Disney's commitment to innovation in theme park attractions.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Since its opening, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters has been praised for its fun and family-friendly design, as well as its technological advancements. Guests appreciate the attention to detail in the ride's theming, as well as the unique experience offered by the trackless ride system. It has become a popular attraction within Cars Land, complementing the immersive world of Radiator Springs.
