MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba) is a non-profit organization based in the United States that promotes cooperation among the US, Cuban and global health communities. It was established in 1997.

MEDICC was founded in 1997 by a group of US health professionals who had previously worked in Cuba. The organization was established to facilitate cooperation between the US and Cuban health communities, with the aim of improving health outcomes and equity.

Activities[edit | edit source]

MEDICC works to enhance cooperation among the US, Cuban and global health communities through a variety of activities. These include:

  • Facilitating medical education exchanges between the US and Cuba.
  • Publishing the peer-reviewed journal, MEDICC Review, which highlights Cuban medical research and health policy.
  • Advocating for the inclusion of Cuban health innovations in US health policy.
  • Organizing health diplomacy initiatives, such as the US-Cuba Health Cooperation Task Force.

MEDICC Review is a peer-reviewed journal published by MEDICC. It is the first English-language journal to focus on health and medicine in Cuba and other developing countries. The journal publishes original research, reviews, and commentaries on topics such as public health, health policy, global health, and medical education.

MEDICC's work has contributed to a greater understanding of the Cuban health system and its potential applications in the US and other countries. The organization's advocacy efforts have also helped to facilitate the inclusion of Cuban health innovations in US health policy.
