Macduff Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Macduff, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Established in 1960, it is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky under the brand name Glen Deveron.

History[edit | edit source]

The Macduff Distillery was founded in 1960 by a group of businessmen led by George Crawford. The distillery was designed to produce whisky for blending purposes, but it has since gained recognition for its single malt offerings. In 1972, the distillery was acquired by William Lawson Distillers Ltd., which later became part of the Bacardi group.

Production[edit | edit source]

The distillery operates with five stills: two wash stills and three spirit stills. The water used in the production process is sourced from the nearby Gelly Burn. The distillery's whisky is known for its light and fruity character, which is achieved through a combination of traditional and modern distillation techniques.

Products[edit | edit source]

Macduff Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies under the Glen Deveron brand. These whiskies are typically aged in oak casks and are available in various age statements, including 10, 12, and 18 years. The distillery also produces whisky for blending purposes, contributing to several well-known blended Scotch whiskies.

Visitor Experience[edit | edit source]

The distillery offers guided tours for visitors, providing an insight into the whisky-making process. The tours include a visit to the still house, the maturation warehouse, and a tasting session of the distillery's products.
