Mackmyra Whisky
Mackmyra Whisky is a Swedish whisky distillery established in 1999. It is notable for being the first whisky distillery in Sweden, and has since gained international recognition for its innovative and high-quality products.
History[edit | edit source]
Mackmyra Whisky was founded by eight friends during a skiing trip in 1998. The idea was born out of a conversation about the absence of Swedish whisky in the market, despite the country's suitable climate for barley cultivation and whisky production. The first distillery was established in Mackmyra Bruk, a small village in the municipality of Gävle, in 1999.
Production[edit | edit source]
Mackmyra Whisky is known for its unique production methods. The distillery uses only Swedish ingredients, with the barley sourced from local farmers. The water used in the production is naturally filtered through the granite and sand of the region, contributing to the whisky's distinct taste.
Mackmyra Whisky is matured in a variety of cask types, including American oak, Swedish oak, and casks that previously held sherry, bourbon, or Swedish cloudberry wine. This variety of cask types allows Mackmyra to produce a wide range of whisky styles.
Products[edit | edit source]
Mackmyra produces a range of whiskies, including single malt, blended malt, and seasonal releases. Some of their notable products include:
- Mackmyra Svensk Ek: A single malt whisky matured in Swedish oak casks.
- Mackmyra Svensk Rök: A peated single malt whisky, with the smoke flavor derived from Swedish peat and juniper.
- Mackmyra Moment: A series of limited-edition whiskies, each with a unique character and story.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Mackmyra Whisky has received numerous awards and accolades for its products. It has been recognized by the World Whisky Awards, the International Wine and Spirit Competition, and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, among others.
