Madison County is a county located in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 7,691. Its county seat is Virginia City. The county was founded in 1865 and named for James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.

Madison County is located in the southwestern part of Montana. It is bordered by Beaverhead County to the west, Silver Bow County to the northwest, Jefferson County to the north, Gallatin County to the east, and Fremont County, Idaho, to the south.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 7,691 people, 3,160 households, and 2,145 families residing in the county.
