Magic Mouthwash

Magic mouthwash is a pharmacy-compounded medication used to alleviate oral and esophageal pain. It is also known as Mary's Magic Potion, Duke's Mouthwash, or Miracle Mouthwash. The term "magic mouthwash" is used to describe a variety of rinses that are used to treat different mouth sores and conditions.

Magic mouthwash is typically compounded in a pharmacy. The patient swishes the mouthwash in their mouth and then spits it out. Some formulations are meant to be swallowed, particularly if the patient has pain further down the esophagus.

Possible side effects of magic mouthwash may include problems with taste, a burning or tingling sensation in the mouth, drowsiness, constipation, diarrhea, and nausea.
