Mahou is a Spanish brewing company, founded in 1890 in Madrid, Spain. It is one of the most prominent brands in the Spanish beer market, known for its wide range of lagers and ales.

History[edit | edit source]

Mahou was established in 1890 by Casimiro Mahou Beigbeder, a Spanish entrepreneur of French and Swiss descent. The company started as a small brewery in the center of Madrid and has since grown into one of the largest beer producers in Spain.

In 1957, Mahou introduced the first non-returnable beer bottle in Spain. This innovation marked a significant milestone in the company's history and set a new standard for the Spanish beer industry.

In 2000, Mahou merged with San Miguel Brewery, another leading Spanish beer brand, to form the Mahou-San Miguel Group. This merger further strengthened Mahou's position in the Spanish beer market and expanded its international presence.
