MainStage
MainStage is a music application developed by Apple Inc. for macOS that serves as a live performance environment for musicians. It is part of the Logic Pro suite of music production tools, but is also available as a standalone application. MainStage allows musicians to perform with the same sounds and effects used in their recordings, and provides a customizable interface for controlling these elements in real time during a performance.
Overview[edit | edit source]
MainStage was first released in 2007 as part of the Logic Studio bundle, and has since been updated several times. The application provides a visual interface for designing custom performance setups, which can include software instruments, audio effects, and MIDI controllers. These setups can be saved as "concerts", which can be recalled at any time.
Features[edit | edit source]
MainStage includes a variety of features designed to facilitate live performance. These include:
- Software instruments: MainStage includes a wide range of software instruments, including synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. These can be played using a MIDI controller or the computer's keyboard.
- Audio effects: MainStage includes a variety of audio effects, such as reverb, delay, and distortion. These can be applied to software instruments or live audio inputs.
- MIDI controller support: MainStage supports a wide range of MIDI controllers, and allows users to map controller inputs to software instrument parameters, audio effect parameters, and other functions.
- Playback and Loopback: These features allow users to play back pre-recorded audio and loop live audio, respectively.
Reception[edit | edit source]
MainStage has been well received by musicians and critics alike. Its integration with Logic Pro, wide range of features, and customizable interface have been particularly praised.
