History[edit | edit source]

The Malaysian Palm Oil Board was established in May 2000, following the merger of the Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM) and the Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA). The main objective of this merger was to promote and develop a competitive, efficient and sustainable palm oil industry in Malaysia.

Functions[edit | edit source]

The main functions of the MPOB include conducting research on palm oil production, processing, marketing and economics. It also provides technical and advisory services to the industry, and enforces regulations related to palm oil quality and standards. The MPOB is also responsible for promoting Malaysia's palm oil industry in both domestic and international markets.

Research and Development[edit | edit source]

The MPOB conducts extensive research and development (R&D) activities to improve the productivity and sustainability of the palm oil industry. This includes research on improving oil palm yields, developing new palm oil products, and enhancing the environmental sustainability of palm oil production.

Sustainability[edit | edit source]

The MPOB is committed to promoting sustainable practices in the palm oil industry. It has implemented a number of initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of palm oil production, including promoting the use of environmentally friendly technologies and practices, and encouraging the industry to adopt sustainable palm oil certification.
