Upon returning to Brazil, Arruda da Câmara dedicated himself to the study of Brazil's flora and fauna. He traveled extensively throughout the Northeast of Brazil, collecting specimens and documenting the region's biodiversity. His work laid the groundwork for future scientific exploration in Brazil and contributed to the understanding of Brazilian natural history.
One of his most significant contributions was in the field of botany. Arruda da Câmara's studies of Brazilian plants not only added to the scientific knowledge of the time but also had practical implications. He was an advocate for the economic and medicinal use of Brazilian plants, promoting their cultivation as a means to boost the local economy and improve public health.
