Manufacturer
A manufacturer is a person or a company that makes goods for sale. The process of converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished goods that meet a customer's expectations or specifications is known as manufacturing.
History[edit | edit source]
The manufacturing sector has evolved over the centuries, from the simple production of goods by individual craftsmen to the complex, multi-step processes of modern industrial manufacturing.
Types of Manufacturers[edit | edit source]
There are several types of manufacturers, including:
- Primary manufacturers: These manufacturers take raw materials and convert them into products. Examples include steel mills and oil refineries.
- Secondary manufacturers: These manufacturers take the products made by primary manufacturers and change them into something else. Examples include toy manufacturers who take plastic and make it into toys.
- Tertiary manufacturers: These manufacturers provide services to other manufacturers. Examples include logistics companies and software developers.
Manufacturing Processes[edit | edit source]
Manufacturing processes can be divided into several categories, including:
- Machining: This involves cutting metal into the desired shape. It is often done on a machine like a lathe or a milling machine.
- Forming: This involves shaping metal using heat or pressure. Examples include forging, casting, and molding.
- Joining: This involves attaching two pieces of metal together. Examples include welding, soldering, and brazing.
- Additive manufacturing: This involves adding material to create a product. The most common example is 3D printing.
