Manzanita is a common name for several species in the genus Arctostaphylos, which contains about 60 species of evergreen shrubs and small trees. The name "manzanita" is derived from the Spanish word manzana, meaning apple, due to the small, apple-like fruits the plants produce. Manzanitas are native to the western United States, Mexico, and British Columbia in Canada.
