Marek Plura
Marek Plura (born 18 September 1970) is a Polish politician and social activist. He is a member of the Civic Platform party and has served in various political roles, including as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and a member of the Sejm, the lower house of the Parliament of Poland.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Marek Plura was born in Racibórz, Poland. He graduated from the University of Silesia in Katowice, where he studied social work. Plura has been actively involved in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, inspired by his own experience living with spinal muscular atrophy.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Sejm[edit | edit source]
Plura was first elected to the Sejm in 2007, representing the Civic Platform party. During his tenure, he focused on social issues, particularly those affecting people with disabilities. He was re-elected in 2011 and continued his advocacy work.
European Parliament[edit | edit source]
In 2014, Plura was elected as a Member of the European Parliament. As an MEP, he served on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and was a member of the Disability Intergroup, where he worked on policies to improve the lives of people with disabilities across the European Union.
Advocacy and Social Work[edit | edit source]
Plura has been a prominent figure in the disability rights movement in Poland. He has worked with various non-governmental organizations to promote accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. His efforts have been recognized both nationally and internationally.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Marek Plura is married and has two children. He continues to be an active advocate for disability rights and social inclusion.
