Mariano's
American grocery store chain
Mariano's is a supermarket chain based in the Chicago metropolitan area, known for its unique blend of traditional grocery offerings and specialty items. The chain is a subsidiary of Kroger, one of the largest grocery retailers in the United States.
History[edit | edit source]
Mariano's was founded in 2010 by Bob Mariano, a former executive of Dominick's, another Chicago-based grocery chain. The first store opened in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and the chain quickly expanded throughout the Chicago area. Mariano's was designed to offer a unique shopping experience, combining elements of a traditional grocery store with specialty departments such as a bakery, butcher, and cheese shop.
In 2015, Mariano's was acquired by Roundy's, a Milwaukee-based grocery company, which was subsequently acquired by Kroger later that year. This acquisition allowed Mariano's to expand its reach and integrate Kroger's supply chain efficiencies.
Store Features[edit | edit source]
Mariano's stores are known for their wide variety of products and services. Each store typically includes a full-service deli, seafood counter, and a large selection of organic and natural foods.
One of the standout features of Mariano's is its emphasis on fresh and prepared foods. Many locations include a sushi bar, pizza station, and a salad bar. The stores also offer a wide range of wine and beer, often featuring local and craft selections.
Specialty Departments[edit | edit source]
Mariano's is particularly noted for its specialty departments, which include a cheese shop with a wide selection of domestic and imported cheeses, a bakery offering freshly baked goods, and a butcher shop with custom cuts of meat. The stores also feature a floral department and a pharmacy.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
Mariano's is committed to community involvement and often participates in local events and charitable activities. The chain supports various local organizations and initiatives, focusing on hunger relief and community development.
Today's Tale of the Tape[edit | edit source]
Mariano's "Today's Tale of the Tape" is a unique feature that highlights fresh seafood offerings. This initiative provides customers with information about the source and quality of the seafood available in-store, emphasizing transparency and sustainability.
