Marie Simon (1824–1877) was a pioneering German nurse and humanitarian known for her contributions to the field of nursing and her efforts in improving the care of wounded soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Marie Simon was born in Dresden, Kingdom of Saxony, in 1824. She was raised in a family that valued education and service, which influenced her later career in nursing. From a young age, Simon was determined to pursue a path that would allow her to help others, particularly in the field of healthcare.

Career[edit | edit source]

Simon's career in nursing began in earnest when she joined the Dresden branch of the Red Cross. Her dedication and skill quickly became apparent, and she was soon recognized as a leader in the organization. During the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871), Simon played a crucial role in organizing and managing the care of wounded soldiers. Her efforts were instrumental in improving the standards of care and hygiene in military hospitals.

Marie Simon is credited with several innovations in nursing care.
