Mark Lowry is an American singer, comedian, and songwriter, best known for his work with the Gaither Vocal Band and for co-writing the song "Mary, Did You Know?". He has been a prominent figure in the Southern gospel music scene and has also gained recognition for his comedic performances.

Mark Alan Lowry was born on June 24, 1958, in Houston, Texas. He grew up in a Christian family and developed an interest in music and comedy at an early age. Lowry attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he began to hone his skills in performance and songwriting.

Mark Lowry's music career began in earnest when he joined the Gaither Vocal Band in 1988. The Gaither Vocal Band is a Southern gospel group founded by Bill Gaither. Lowry's tenure with the band lasted until 2001, and he returned for a second stint from 2009 to 2013. During his time with the band, Lowry contributed to several albums and was known for his humorous stage presence.

Lowry is perhaps best known for co-writing the Christmas song "Mary, Did You Know?" with Buddy Greene. The song has been recorded by numerous artists across various genres and has become a modern Christmas classic.
