Marshall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,439. Its county seat is Warren. The county was formed on February 25, 1879, and was named for William R. Marshall, the fifth governor of Minnesota.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Marshall County is located in the northwestern part of Minnesota. It is bordered by Kittson County to the north, Roseau County to the east, Pennington County and Polk County to the south, and Grand Forks County, North Dakota, to the west. The Red River flows along the county's western border.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,813 square miles, of which 1,780 square miles is land and 33 square miles is water. The population density was 5.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 98.9% White, 0.2% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
