Marvel Productions
Marvel Productions was an American television and film production company that operated from 1981 to 1996. It was a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment Group, which is now part of The Walt Disney Company. The company was known for producing a variety of animated television series, films, and specials.

Marvel Productions was formed in 1981 when Marvel Comics acquired the animation studio DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. The studio was initially known for producing animated series based on Marvel Comics characters, as well as other popular franchises.
Early Years[edit | edit source]
In its early years, Marvel Productions produced several successful animated series, including Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and The Incredible Hulk. These series helped to establish Marvel Productions as a significant player in the animation industry.
1980s Success[edit | edit source]
During the 1980s, Marvel Productions expanded its portfolio to include a variety of animated series based on both Marvel and non-Marvel properties. Notable series from this period include G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, The Transformers, and My Little Pony. The company also produced several animated specials and feature films, such as The Transformers: The Movie.
Acquisition and Rebranding[edit | edit source]
In 1989, Marvel Productions was acquired by New World Entertainment, which led to a rebranding of the company as New World Animation. Despite the change in ownership, the studio continued to produce animated content, including the popular X-Men: The Animated Series in the early 1990s.
Closure[edit | edit source]
Marvel Productions ceased operations in 1996, following the financial difficulties of its parent company, Marvel Entertainment Group. The assets and library of Marvel Productions were eventually absorbed by Saban Entertainment, which later became part of Disney Television Animation.
