Marvel Studios is known for producing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), a film franchise and shared universe that is centered around a series of superhero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The studio was founded as Marvel Films in 1993, and since 2008, it has produced 30 films with many more in various stages of production.

Marvel Studios was originally launched as Marvel Films in 1993, with Avi Arad serving as the head of the new division.
