McAfee's Benchmark
McAfee's Benchmark is a whiskey brand that is part of the Beam Suntory portfolio. Named after the McAfee brothers who surveyed a site just north of Frankfort, Kentucky, in the late 18th century, this rye recipe bourbon is yet another label that honors the storied history of the distilling industry in Kentucky.
History[edit | edit source]
The McAfee brothers, James and Robert, were among the earliest settlers in Kentucky. They surveyed the site that would later become the location of the Beam Suntory distillery in the late 18th century. The whiskey brand named after them, McAfee's Benchmark, is a tribute to their pioneering spirit.
Production[edit | edit source]
McAfee's Benchmark is a bourbon whiskey that is distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky. It is made using a rye recipe, which gives it a distinctive spicy flavor. The whiskey is aged in new, charred oak barrels for a minimum of three years, which gives it a rich, deep color and complex flavor.
Tasting Notes[edit | edit source]
McAfee's Benchmark has a rich, complex flavor profile. On the nose, it has notes of caramel and oak. On the palate, it is smooth and medium-bodied, with flavors of vanilla, spice, and a hint of pepper. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering spice.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
McAfee's Benchmark has been recognized for its quality and flavor in several spirits competitions. It has won awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the International Wine and Spirit Competition, and the Beverage Testing Institute's International Review of Spirits.
