McMinnville AVA[edit | edit source]

The McMinnville AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Yamhill County, Oregon. It is a sub-region of the Willamette Valley AVA, and was established in 2005. The region is named after the city of McMinnville, Oregon.

Geography and Climate[edit | edit source]

The McMinnville AVA is located on the northeastern slopes of the Coast Range mountains. The region's elevation ranges from 200 to 1,000 feet, and it is characterized by shallow, well-drained soils that are ideal for viticulture. The climate in the McMinnville AVA is cooler and wetter than the surrounding areas, with a longer growing season that allows for the slow, even ripening of grapes.

Viticulture[edit | edit source]

The McMinnville AVA is known for its production of Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Chardonnay wines. The region's cool climate and well-drained soils are particularly well-suited to the production of Pinot noir, which is the most widely planted grape variety in the AVA. The wines produced in the McMinnville AVA are known for their depth of flavor and balance.

Wineries[edit | edit source]

There are numerous wineries located within the McMinnville AVA, including Eyrie Vineyards, Maysara Winery, and Brittan Vineyards. These wineries produce a range of wines, from single-varietal offerings to complex blends, and many offer tastings and tours to visitors.
