Mcallen is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. It is situated in the southernmost part of the state, near the Mexican border. With a population of over 140,000 residents, Mcallen is the largest city in Hidalgo County and the twenty-second most populous city in Texas.

Mcallen was founded in 1904 by John McAllen, a Scottish businessman who established a ranch in the area. The city experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century due to its proximity to the Rio Grande River and the development of irrigation systems. The discovery of oil in the region further fueled the city's expansion.
