Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve

The Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve are a group of nerves that originate from the Maxillary Nerve, a branch of the Trigeminal Nerve. These nerves are responsible for providing sensory innervation to the nasal cavity, specifically the posterior superior part of the nasal septum and lateral nasal wall.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve are derived from the Pterygopalatine Ganglion, which is itself a branch of the Maxillary Nerve. After branching off from the Pterygopalatine Ganglion, these nerves travel through the Sphenopalatine Foramen to enter the nasal cavity.

Once inside the nasal cavity, the Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve divide into several smaller branches. These branches spread out to supply the posterior superior part of the nasal septum and the lateral nasal wall.

The primary function of the Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve is to provide sensory innervation to the nasal cavity. This includes the sensation of touch, temperature, and pain.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Damage or injury to the Medial Superior Posterior Nasal Branches of Maxillary Nerve can result in loss of sensation in the areas of the nasal cavity that these nerves supply. This can occur as a result of trauma, surgery, or certain medical conditions such as Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
