Mentadent

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Mentadent is a brand of toothpaste and toothbrush that has been marketed globally. The Mentadent brand name was first used in the early 20th century by Unilever, a British-Dutch multinational consumer goods company. The name is a portmanteau of "mental" and "dental", reflecting the brand's focus on oral health.

History[edit | edit source]

The Mentadent brand was first introduced by Unilever in the early 20th century. It was initially marketed in Europe before expanding to other markets. In the United States, the brand was acquired by Church & Dwight, a major American manufacturer of household products, in 2003.

Products[edit | edit source]

Mentadent offers a range of oral care products, including toothpaste and toothbrushes. The brand is known for its unique toothpaste dispenser, which features two separate chambers for the paste and the gel. This design is intended to keep the ingredients fresh and to ensure that they are mixed only at the time of brushing.

The toothpaste formula contains fluoride, which is known for its cavity-fighting properties. It also includes baking soda and peroxide, ingredients that are believed to help whiten teeth and freshen breath.

Discontinuation[edit | edit source]

In 2016, Church & Dwight announced that it would discontinue the Mentadent brand in the United States. The decision was reportedly due to declining sales and the company's desire to focus on its other oral care brands.
