Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character and the mascot of The Walt Disney Company. He was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928. An anthropomorphic mouse who typically wears red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves, Mickey is one of the world's most recognizable characters.
Creation and debut[edit | edit source]
Mickey Mouse was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an earlier cartoon character created by the Disney studio for Charles Mintz, a film producer who distributed product through Universal Pictures. The origins of Mickey's creation are disputed. Ub Iwerks is given credit for the character's design, while Walt Disney is said to have been the original voice of Mickey.
Characterization[edit | edit source]
Mickey is often portrayed as a cheerful and mischievous anthropomorphic mouse who must rely on his quick-wit and athleticism to overcome adversity. His most famous attributes are his wholesomeness and charisma. In contrast to this, Mickey is also sometimes portrayed as a romantic adventurer and the character has been used a symbol for the Disney brand.
Cultural impact[edit | edit source]
Mickey Mouse has had a significant cultural impact since his creation in the 1920s. He has been used as a symbol for American culture, and has appeared in various forms of media including television series, films, comic strips, and video games. Mickey has also been used as a mascot for various political campaigns and social movements.
