Middlesex County, Massachusetts is a county located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in the United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, it is the most populous county in Massachusetts, with a population of approximately 1.6 million residents. Middlesex County is part of the Greater Boston area, one of the most significant historical, economic, and cultural regions in the United States.

Middlesex County was created by the Massachusetts General Court on May 10, 1643, when it was ordered that "the whole plantation within this jurisdiction be divided into four shires". Middlesex was originally much larger than it is today, encompassing areas that are now part of New Hampshire. Over the years, its size was reduced to its current boundaries. The county has played a significant role in American history, particularly during the early stages of the American Revolution.
