Mikoyan is a Russian aircraft design bureau, named after its co-founder, Artem Ivanovich Mikoyan. It is one of the most significant entities in the Russian aviation industry, with a history dating back to the Soviet era.

The Mikoyan design bureau was established in December 1939 in the Soviet Union. It was co-founded by Artem Ivanovich Mikoyan and Mikhail Iosifovich Gurevich, hence the name MiG, an acronym of their surnames. The bureau was initially tasked with creating high-speed interceptor aircraft to counter potential threats from the West.
