Miyagikyo distillery

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Miyagikyo Distillery is a Japanese whisky distillery. It is located in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The distillery is owned by Nikka Whisky Distilling, a subsidiary of Asahi Breweries.

History[edit | edit source]

The Miyagikyo Distillery was established in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky Distilling. Taketsuru chose the location for its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat. The distillery was originally named Sendai Distillery, but it was renamed to Miyagikyo in 2001.

Production[edit | edit source]

Miyagikyo Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies. The distillery uses a variety of still shapes, including pot stills and column stills, to produce a diverse range of whisky styles. The distillery also produces a grain whisky, which is used in the production of Nikka's blended whiskies.

Products[edit | edit source]

Some of the notable products from the Miyagikyo Distillery include:

  • Miyagikyo Single Malt: A single malt whisky that is representative of the distillery's style, with fruity and malty flavours.
  • Miyagikyo 10 Year Old: A single malt whisky aged for 10 years, with a rich and smooth taste.
  • Miyagikyo 15 Year Old: A single malt whisky aged for 15 years, with a complex and deep flavour.
