- The city of Mosinee was incorporated in 1910. It was originally a lumber town, with the first sawmill established in the 1840s. The city's name, Mosinee, is derived from the Ojibwe word "Mosinekee," which means "bear walking."

- Mosinee is located at 44°47′27″N 89°42′24″W. The city has a total area of 8.17 square miles, of which, 7.81 square miles is land and 0.36 square miles is water. The Wisconsin River runs through the city, providing a beautiful backdrop and opportunities for outdoor activities.
