Mountain Home is a city in Elmore County, Idaho, United States. It is the largest city in the county and serves as the county seat. The city is located in the southwestern part of the state, approximately 40 miles southeast of Boise.

Mountain Home was originally a post office at Rattlesnake Station, a stagecoach stop on the Overland Stage Line about 7 miles east of the present city. The post office was moved to the city's present site in 1883 due to the construction of the Oregon Short Line Railroad.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Mountain Home is situated at an elevation of 3,146 feet (959 m) above sea level. The city covers a total area of 6.36 square miles (16.47 km²), all of which is land. The climate is classified as semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, the population of Mountain Home was 15,979. The city has a diverse population with a mix of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Mountain Home is largely driven by the nearby Mountain Home Air Force Base, which is a significant employer in the area. Other economic activities include agriculture, retail, and services.

Mountain Home is served by the Mountain Home School District, which includes several elementary schools, a junior high school, and a high school. The city also has a branch of the College of Western Idaho.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Mountain Home is accessible via Interstate 84, which runs east-west through the city. The city is also served by the Mountain Home Municipal Airport.
