Mozilla Sunbird was a cross-platform calendar application developed by the Mozilla Foundation. It was intended to be a standalone version of the Mozilla Calendar component. Sunbird was designed to provide users with a full-featured calendar application that could be used independently of the Mozilla Thunderbird email client or the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
History[edit | edit source]
The development of Mozilla Sunbird began as part of the Mozilla Calendar Project, which aimed to create a calendar application that could be integrated with other Mozilla products. The first public release of Sunbird was in 2004. Over the years, Sunbird saw several updates and improvements, but it was eventually discontinued in favor of the Lightning extension for Mozilla Thunderbird.
Features[edit | edit source]
Mozilla Sunbird offered a range of features typical of calendar software, including:
- Support for multiple calendars
- Event and task management
- Alarms and reminders
- Recurring events
- Import and export of calendar data in iCalendar format
- Time zone support
Discontinuation[edit | edit source]
In 2010, the Mozilla Foundation announced that it would no longer be developing Sunbird as a standalone application. Instead, efforts were focused on the Lightning extension, which provided similar functionality within the Mozilla Thunderbird email client. The last official release of Sunbird was version 1.0 beta 1.
