Mr Bean was founded in 1995 in Singapore by Loh Jwee Poh and Kang Puay Seng. The company started as a small stall selling soy milk and tofu in People's Park Complex, a commercial and residential building in Chinatown, Singapore. The founders' goal was to promote the health benefits of soy products to the Singaporean public.

Mr Bean offers a wide range of soy-based products. Their most popular products include fresh soy milk, tofu, and a variety of soy-based snacks and desserts. The company is known for its innovative approach to soy products, often incorporating them into traditional Asian dishes and desserts.

Since its establishment, Mr Bean has expanded its operations to several countries in Asia. The company opened its first overseas outlet in Tokyo, Japan in 2000. This was followed by outlets in South Korea and China. As of 2020, Mr Bean has over 50 outlets in Singapore and more than 60 outlets overseas.

In 2010, the company was awarded the Singapore Prestige Brand Award for its strong branding and marketing efforts. In 2015, Mr Bean was recognized by the Singapore Health Promotion Board for its commitment to promoting healthy eating habits.
