Muar District

Muar District is a district in the state of Johor, Malaysia. Muar is also the name of its district capital, and it is an old trading centre and river port, which has a rich history of cultural diversity.

The history of Muar dates back to prehistoric times. Archaeological evidence suggests that the area has been inhabited for thousands of years. The district was part of the ancient kingdom of Malacca Sultanate, and later came under the control of the Johor Sultanate.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Muar District is located in the southwestern part of Johor, bordering the Melaka state. The district is divided into two by the Muar River - Bandar Maharani (Bandar Muar) on the west and Tanjung Agas on the east. The district's landscape is largely flat with numerous plantations.

The economy of Muar District is largely based on agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The district is known for its palm oil plantations and furniture manufacturing industry. It is also a major fishing port, producing a significant portion of the state's fish supply.

Transportation in Muar District is facilitated by a network of roads and a public transportation system. The district is served by the North-South Expressway, the main expressway in Peninsular Malaysia. The Muar Bypass is a major road that connects the district to other parts of Johor.
