Musculature
Musculature refers to the system of muscles in an organism's body, which allows for movement, both voluntary and involuntary. The musculature system is divided into three types: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac. Each type of muscle has a unique structure and function.
Skeletal Muscle[edit | edit source]
Skeletal muscles are attached to the bones and in some areas the skin (muscles in our face). Contraction of these muscles helps in the movement of the bones and thus the body parts. They are under our conscious control and are also known as voluntary muscles.
Smooth Muscle[edit | edit source]
Smooth muscles are found in the walls of hollow organs like stomach, intestines, blood vessels and urinary bladder. They are not under our conscious control and are thus known as involuntary muscles. They help in movements like the flow of blood, food and waste through the body's organs.
Cardiac Muscle[edit | edit source]
Cardiac muscles are found in the walls of the heart. They are also involuntary muscles. They help in the contraction and relaxation of the heart, which constitutes the heartbeat.
