Myrianthus arboreus is a species of flowering plant in the family Urticaceae, native to tropical regions of Africa. It is commonly known as the Cabbage Tree or Giant Yellow Mulberry due to its large, yellowish-green flower clusters.

Myrianthus arboreus is a large, evergreen tree that can reach up to 20 meters in height. The bark is rough and grey, with a dense crown of large, palmately lobed leaves. The flowers are small, yellowish-green, and arranged in large, dense clusters. The fruit is a small, round, yellowish-green berry.

Distribution and habitat[edit | edit source]

Myrianthus arboreus is native to tropical regions of Africa, including Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, and Kenya. It is typically found in rainforests, wetlands, and along riverbanks.

Uses[edit | edit source]

The wood of Myrianthus arboreus is used for construction and furniture making. The leaves and fruit are edible and used in traditional African cuisine. The plant also has medicinal uses in traditional African medicine.

Conservation[edit | edit source]

Myrianthus arboreus is not currently considered to be at risk of extinction. However, its habitat is threatened by deforestation and climate change.
