NBRC-TMC

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

NBRC-TMC stands for the National Board for Respiratory Care - Therapist Multiple-Choice Examination. It is a standardized test administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) for individuals seeking to become certified respiratory therapists (CRT) or registered respiratory therapists (RRT).

Overview[edit | edit source]

The NBRC-TMC is designed to assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for entry-level respiratory therapists. The examination is divided into two cut scores: the lower cut score qualifies candidates for the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential, while the higher cut score qualifies candidates to proceed to the Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE) for the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.

Examination Structure[edit | edit source]

The NBRC-TMC consists of multiple-choice questions that cover three major content areas:

  • Patient Data Evaluation and Recommendations
  • Troubleshooting and Quality Control of Equipment, and Infection Control
  • Initiation and Modification of Interventions

Eligibility[edit | edit source]

To be eligible to take the NBRC-TMC, candidates must have completed an accredited respiratory therapy program and meet other specific requirements set by the NBRC.

Scoring[edit | edit source]

The examination uses a scaled scoring system. Candidates must achieve a minimum score to pass and earn the CRT credential. Those who achieve a higher score are eligible to take the CSE for the RRT credential.

Certification and Credentialing[edit | edit source]

Passing the NBRC-TMC is a prerequisite for obtaining the CRT and RRT credentials. These credentials are essential for practicing as a respiratory therapist in many healthcare settings.
