American Association for Respiratory Care

The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) is a professional association for respiratory therapists in the United States. The AARC is dedicated to promoting the profession of respiratory care and providing education, advocacy, and support for its members.

The AARC was founded in 1947 as the Inhalation Therapy Association (ITA). It was later renamed the American Association for Inhalation Therapy (AAIT) in 1954, and then the American Association for Respiratory Therapy (AART) in 1973. The organization adopted its current name, the American Association for Respiratory Care, in 1986.
