The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an autonomous organization of the Government of India, established in 1961. Its primary function is to assist and advise the central and state governments on academic matters related to school education. NCERT is responsible for the development of curriculum, textbooks, and educational research in India.

NCERT was established on 1 September 1961 as a literary, scientific, and charitable society under the Societies Registration Act. The organization was set up to design and support a common system of education that is national in character and encourages the diverse cultural heritage of the country.
Objectives[edit | edit source]
The main objectives of NCERT are to:
- Promote and coordinate research in areas related to school education.
- Prepare and publish model textbooks, supplementary material, newsletters, journals, and educational kits.
- Develop educational technology and conduct training programs.
- Collaborate with international organizations and other educational bodies.
Structure[edit | edit source]
NCERT is governed by a General Body, which is chaired by the Minister of Education. The Executive Committee, chaired by the Director of NCERT, is responsible for implementing the policies and programs of the organization.

NCERT comprises several departments, each focusing on different aspects of education:
