NLRP11

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

NLRP11 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NLRP11 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the NLRP family, which is a group of proteins that are involved in the regulation of innate immune response. The NLRP11 protein is thought to play a role in the regulation of inflammation and apoptosis.

Function[edit | edit source]

The NLRP11 protein is part of the larger NLRP family, which is involved in the regulation of the innate immune response. This family of proteins is characterized by a unique structure that includes a NACHT domain, a LRR (leucine-rich repeats) domain, and a PYD (Pyrin domain) domain. The NLRP11 protein is thought to play a role in the regulation of inflammation and apoptosis, although the exact mechanisms by which it does this are not fully understood.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the NLRP11 gene have been associated with a variety of diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancer. In particular, mutations in this gene have been linked to an increased risk of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. Further research is needed to fully understand the role of the NLRP11 protein in disease development and progression.
