Nachman Ash
Israeli physician and public health official
Nachman Ash (born 1961) is an Israeli physician and public health official who has served in various prominent roles within the Israeli healthcare system. He is known for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his contributions to military medicine.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Nachman Ash was born in 1961 in Israel. He pursued his medical education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. He later completed a Master of Health Administration (MHA) at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Military Career[edit | edit source]
Ash served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Medical Corps, where he held several key positions. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General and served as the Chief Medical Officer of the IDF from 2007 to 2011. During his tenure, he was responsible for overseeing the health and medical readiness of the Israeli military forces.
Public Health Leadership[edit | edit source]
After retiring from the military, Ash transitioned to public health roles. He became a senior official in the Israeli Ministry of Health, where he contributed to various public health initiatives. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he was appointed as the national coronavirus czar, responsible for coordinating Israel's response to the pandemic.
