Naruto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. The story is divided into two parts, the first set in Naruto's pre-teen years, and the second in his teens. The series is based on a one-shot manga by Kishimoto that was published in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump.

The series begins with Naruto as a young orphan who is shunned by the villagers of Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village) because he is the host of the Nine-Tails, a powerful tailed beast that attacked the village. Despite this, Naruto is determined to become the strongest ninja and earn the title of Hokage. Along the way, he forms close bonds with his teammates, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, under the mentorship of their teacher, Kakashi Hatake.
