The Nasiriyah Heart Center is a government-owned medical center in Nasiriyah, Thi Qar governorate, Iraq. It specializes in treating heart conditions such as ischemic heart diseases, congenital heart defects, and heart valvular malfunctions. The center consists of four departments: cardiology, congenital heart defects, anesthesia, and cardiac surgery.
The cardiac surgery department is led by two senior surgeons, Dr. Aqeel Salman and Dr. Hussein Hashim, along with two registering surgeons, Dr. Rafid Hameed and Munaf Mohammed, and seven cardiothoracic residents. The department has a surgical ward with 18 beds, an intermediate ward with 6 beds, a fully equipped surgical ICU with a capacity of 12 patients, and 4 operating rooms. Common surgeries performed include valve replacements, coronary artery bypass grafting, and repair of congenital heart defects. The department also provides support for surgeries and staff development.
The Nasiriyah Heart Center was constructed by a local company called Forth Dimension and opened in October 2013. The building has three floors: the ground floor houses the outpatient clinic, the congenital heart defects department, and administrative offices. The first floor has two wings, one containing the surgical ward, intermediate ward, ICU, and operating theaters, and the other containing the men's cardiology ward, CCU, and catheterization rooms. The second floor also has two wings, one for doctors' residences and the other divided into the women's cardiology ward and additional doctor's residences.
