National Association of Sessional GPs
National Association of Sessional GPs
The National Association of Sessional GPs (NASGP) is a professional organization in the United Kingdom that represents the interests of sessional general practitioners (GPs). Sessional GPs are doctors who work in general practice but are not partners in a practice. They include locum GPs, salaried GPs, and GP retainers.
History[edit | edit source]
The NASGP was founded in 1997 to address the unique challenges faced by sessional GPs. The organization was established to provide support, advocacy, and resources for GPs who work in a variety of non-partner roles within the NHS.
Objectives[edit | edit source]
The primary objectives of the NASGP are to:
- Advocate for the rights and working conditions of sessional GPs.
- Provide resources and support for professional development.
- Facilitate networking and communication among sessional GPs.
- Represent sessional GPs in discussions with other medical organizations and government bodies.
Activities[edit | edit source]
The NASGP engages in a variety of activities to support its members, including:
- Publishing the "GP Locum Chambers" model, which helps locum GPs organize their work and improve their professional practice.
- Offering a range of online resources, including templates for contracts and guidance on employment issues.
- Hosting events and conferences to provide networking opportunities and professional development.
- Producing a regular newsletter with updates on issues affecting sessional GPs.
Membership[edit | edit source]
Membership in the NASGP is open to all sessional GPs working in the UK. Members benefit from access to a range of resources, including legal advice, educational materials, and a supportive community of peers.
