Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology and neuroscience that aims to understand how the structure and function of the brain relate to specific psychological processes. It is scientific in its approach and shares an information processing view of the mind with cognitive psychology and cognitive science.

The history of neuropsychology dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. The Edwin Smith Papyrus, a text written around the 17th century BC, details a variety of physical injuries, including some of a neurological nature.

Branches[edit | edit source]

Neuropsychology is a wide field, encompassing a number of sub-specialties. These include pediatric neuropsychology, geriatric neuropsychology, and forensic neuropsychology.

Assessment[edit | edit source]

Neuropsychological assessment is a performance-based method to assess cognitive functioning. This involves the use of standardized tests and procedures.
