New Hyde Park is a village located in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is part of the Town of North Hempstead and is located in the western part of the county. The village was incorporated in 1927 and has a population of 9,783 as of the 2010 census.

New Hyde Park was originally settled in the mid-17th century by Dutch and English settlers. It was primarily an agricultural area until the late 19th century when the Long Island Rail Road was extended to the area. This led to the development of residential neighborhoods and the village was officially incorporated in 1927.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km2), all of which is land.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the census of 2010, there were 9,783 people, 3,152 households, and 2,568 families residing in the village. The population density was 6,030.6 per square mile (2,328.8/km2). There were 3,221 housing units at an average density of 2,000.6 per square mile (772.4/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 78.5% White, 1.3% African American, 0.1% Native American, 14.1% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 2.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.1% of the population.

Education[edit | edit source]

New Hyde Park is served by the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District. The district operates four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The high school, New Hyde Park Memorial High School, is known for its strong academic programs and extracurricular activities.
