New Mexico is a U.S. state located in the Southwestern United States. It is the fifth largest state by area and the 36th most populous. The state's diverse geography ranges from the Rosewell desert to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. New Mexico is known for its rich history, vibrant cultures, and stunning natural beauty.

New Mexico's history dates back to the Paleo-Indian period, around 9200 BC. The region was later inhabited by the Ancestral Puebloans, who built impressive cliff dwellings. The first European exploration of the area was by the Spanish in the 16th century, leading to the establishment of Santa Fe in 1610. New Mexico became a U.S. territory in 1850 and was admitted as the 47th state in 1912.

New Mexico is a U.S. state and is therefore governed by a Governor and a bicameral legislature. The state also has three U.S. congresspersons and two U.S. senators.
